Gardaí have confirmed a body has been recovered from an area in Co Wicklow.

The location between Manor Kilbride and the Sally Gap had been searched and excavated over the past fortnight as part of the investigation into the disappearance of a Romanian teenager four years ago.

Eighteen-year-old Mariora Rosta was last seen getting into a car in Dublin city centre in January 2008. Gardaí believe she was abducted and subsequently murdered.

It is not clear whether the remains found this morning are that of a male or a female.

The State Pathologist, a forensic anthropologist and a team from the Garda Technical Bureau have been called to the scene.

Security Editor with the Irish Independent, Tom Brady, says Gardai had received specific information about Mariora, which led them to conduct the search.
