A drugs haul worth more than €5m has been seized in a series of raids in Dublin in which five people were arrested, the Gardaí have said.
Almost a third of a metric ton of cannabis (330kg) was taken in two swoops in the north of the capital in an operation involving the Garda National Drugs Unit and local drugs police yesterday.
A force spokeswoman said: “The total value of the drugs seized, subject to analysis, is in the region of €5.1m.”
Three men, one in his 20s, one in his 30s and one in his 70s, were arrested in a raid on a van and a car on Ballymun Road. Gardaí recovered 90kg of cannabis resin at the scene.
In a second raid 240kg of herbal cannabis was found at a unit at North Dublin Business Park, where a fourth man, in his 30s, was arrested.
A woman in her 30s was arrested in the Ballymun area a short time later.
All five are being held on suspicion of drug trafficking.
