Twenty-nine people were arrested in Cork yesterday as part of the gardaí's Operation Thor Day of Action.

Gardaí arrested a total of 29 people in relation to a number of recent incidents of robbery, threats to kill and sale and supply of drugs.

Out of this group, 32 bench warrants were executed on 23 of the persons arrested while the remaining six were released without charge and files will be prepared for the DPP.

There was a total of five searches done in building across Cork with €12,600 worth of suspected cannabis herb, cannabis resin, ecstasy and heroin seized, subject to garda analysis.

These searches led to three arrests, all of whom have since been released and a file will be prepared for the DPP, gardaí say.

The operations conducted were carried out by local gardaí along with Detective, Immigration, Drugs Units, Roads Policing Unit, Dog Unit and the Armed Support Unit. Assistance for the Checkpoint Operation was provided by Revenue and Customs officers and the Department of Social Protection.
