Garda Investigation Underway Into Numerous Fires At Co Tipperary Halting Site

A garda investigation is underway into a number of fires which broke out at a halting site in Co Tipperary.

The garda probe is continuing into the cause of two fires which destroyed a house and caravan on the outskirts of Clonmel on the N24 Inner Relief shortly after 5am on Tuesday.

Two units of South Tipperary Fire Service were called to the scene and were stood down around 7am, but had to return to the Railway Cottages at 9am when the blaze reignited.

Gardaí are also investigating a number of criminal damages offences at the same halting site late on Monday night which continued into Tuesday.

An initial call was made at about 12.45am on Tuesday in relation to a premises at a halting site in Clonmel.

Gardaí called the fire service for assistance in relation to a disturbance at the scene and units from Cahir and Clonmel were mobilised.

In a statement, gardaí said that they are continuing to investigate “a number of incidents of criminal damage that occurred overnight in Clonmel, County Tipperary on Tuesday, March 18.

“No injuries were reported and investigations are ongoing.”
