A trial date has been set for a Dublin-based garda in relation to allegations of possessing child pornography.

Gda Joe O'Connor (aged 53) was accused of possessing over 650 images of child porn following a search of his home in west Dublin by detectives three years ago.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, set a trial date for July 22, next.

Gda O'Connor is also bailed to appear for a pre-trial hearing on June 5, next.

The accused, with an address in west Dublin, previously appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with possession of child pornography, contrary to Section 6(1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

The alleged incident took place between July 30, 2011 and August 2, 2011 at his home in west Dublin.
