Fundraiser for Cork cancer support facility

Cork ARC Cancer Support House has launched a major fundraising drive to raise money for larger premises to provide services for those affected by cancer.

The charity’s annual Spring Ball, held in association with Sunshine and Umbrellas, takes place at the Clayton Silversprings Hotel, Cork, on March 1.

The ball will be the first event in a major drive to raise €1.5m for a new building.

Cork ARC Cancer Support House is currently based at O’Donovan Rossa Rd.

It has acquired significantly larger premises because of the demand for its much-needed services.

The two-storey, 8,000 sq ft Sarsfield House in Wilton is a period home in need of major work to become a state-of-the-art cancer support facility.

Contractors have already been appointed to carry out the substantial redevelopment of the building.

Chief executive of Cork ARC Cancer Support House, Aileen O’Neill, said they continue to see rising demand for professional support services for cancer patients and their families.

Services provided include counselling, a support network, health, nutrition, wellbeing and their new CLIMB programme for children of parents living with cancer.

“We are calling on the people of Cork to support our fundraising drive to refurbish Sarsfield House, so it will become the new Cork ARC Cancer Support House,” she said.

Sunshine and Umbrellas co-founder Niamh Horgan said: “Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, corporates and the people of Cork attending the ball, we have high hopes of raising significant funds to help the redevelopment costs.”
