French sailor breaks pelvis as trimaran capsizes in Dun Laoghaire harbour

A French sailor has been airlifted from a racing yacht in Dun Laoghaire harbour after the boat capsized in strong winds.

Jacques Guichard broke his pelvis when the 70 foot trimaran, skippered by his brother, flipped over shortly after 3pm this afternoon, tossing all 10 crew overboard.

The boat, "Spindrift", was taking part in an international round-Europe race.

The injured man is being treated at Tallaght Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

The leg of the race has been cancelled and an internal investigation is underway.

The Irish Coast Guard, RNLI and emergency services all attended the incident.
