Two Irish activists who were yesterday prevented from leaving Israel for a second time are understood to be on their way home this morning.

Irish Ship to Gaza co-ordinator Fintan Lane and lecturer Zoe Lawlor were part of a group of 14 activists imprisoned on Friday after they attempted to enter Gaza as part of the 'Freedom Waves' flotilla.

Five of the group arrived into Dublin Airport late last night after also being turned away from an earlier flight home.

A further seven are due to be released later today.

The Israeli embassy says the activists committed an illegal act and therefore had to be detained.
