Free GP care on way for those with long-term illnesses

The Junior Health Minister Roisin Shortall has announced that those with long-term illnesses will be entitled to free GP care from March of next year.

The Junior Health Minister Roisin Shortall has announced that those with long-term illnesses will be entitled to free GP care from March of next year.

The move is part of a plan to introduce free GP care for everyone by 2015.

Minister Shortall has also stated that from March 2013, the 50,000 patients who are on the high-dependency drugs scheme will also no longer pay GP fees.

It is estimated the first phase of the reform for those with long-term illnesses will cost €300m.
