Four young men were killed today in a crash in Monaghan.

Four young men were killed today in a crash in Monaghan.

The victims, who were all in their twenties, died when two cars crashed into each other near the village of Three Mile House shortly after 2am.

A fifth person was being treated at Monaghan General Hospital for serious injuries.

The victims’ bodies were being taken to the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk.

The injured man, who is believed to be 27, was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. He is believed to be receiving treatment for head injuries.

Gardaí said the head-on crash happened at Kilnaclay, and all of those involved in the accident were from the local area.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene of the crash was sealed off by gardaí for a technical examination.
