Four children, who were injured while travelling in their father’s car, were awarded a total of €34,000 damages today against his insurance company.
Barrister John Doherty told the Circuit Civil Court that the young Donohues, Patrick (aged 16), Michael (aged 14), Daniel (aged 11) and Jessica (aged three) were being driven by their father, Michael, when his car collided with another on October 6 last year.
He said all of the four children, who live with their parents Michael and Margaret, at Droim NaCoille Avenue, Lucan, Co Dublin, were injured in the crash which had taken place at Coldcut Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin.
Mr Doherty told Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Matthew Deery, that settlement offers had been made to Patrick (€8,000); Michael (€8,000); Daniel (€10,000) and Jessica (€8,000) and he was recommending they be approved by the court.
He said the children were also being compensated with additional payments totalling €9,750 for hospital and other expenses. The claims were taken on their behalf by their mother, Margaret.
Judge Deery said all of the children had made good recoveries from soft tissue injuries they had suffered in the accident and he approved the settlements.
