Former garda shot in upper body, post mortem reveals

A post mortem has today confirmed that John Kerins, the former garda shot dead in Co Cavan, received gunshot wounds to his upper body.

He was found dead in a house on the outskirts of the village of Canningstown shortly after midday yesterday.

Gardaí are still at the scene carrying out a forensic examination.

An incident room has been set up in Bailieboro Garda Station and the investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal to anybody that was in the Cornaveagh and the Canningstown area of Bailieboro between 5pm last Thursday and 8am on Friday who may have seen anything out of the ordinary to contact the Gardaí at Bailieboro at 042 9665102, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
