The 26-year-old from Kilkenny City officially launches his campaign this morning with party leader Lucinda Creighton at Butler House.
Councillor McKee, a serving member of Kilkenny County Council, said: “I am excited to be contesting the Carlow-Kilkenny by-election on behalf of Renua, a new party with a new vision.
“It presents the people of Carlow and Kilkenny with an opportunity to lead the way in delivering the necessary change and reform that is desperately needed to put our communities back on their feet.
“Our focus will be to ensure that our economic recovery benefits all particularly those who have borne the brunt of poor political and economic judgement.”

Renua Ireland leader Lucinda Creighton said: “We said we would form a credible political alternative to the people of Ireland and by unveiling such a wonderful young candidate in Patrick McKee for Carlow-Kilkenny is only the start of showing our strength in depth as we grow rapidly around the country.
“We have a responsibility to change how politics has been administered. We will show that we care how Ireland is run and how reformed politics can impact for the better especially to the most vulnerable in society.
“Patrick will be a key member of our party and I will be using his inputs and experience that he has gained from the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency which has the perfect mix of rural and urban society.”
