Former Dublin County Manager John Fitzgerald has denied that he had an agreement with property developer Owen O'Callaghan about the Quarryvale development in Dublin.

Former Dublin County Manager John Fitzgerald has denied that he had an agreement with property developer Owen O'Callaghan about the Quarryvale development in Dublin.

Tom Gilmartin has claimed that Mr O'Callaghan bragged that he could have as much retail development as he wished at Quarryvale once Mr Fitzgerald became manager of South Dublin County Council.

Mr Gilmartin claims Mr O'Callaghan made the comment amid concerns that councillors might cap the size of Quarryvale at a meeting in December 1992.

Today, the Mahon Tribunal produced a number of diary entries with notes about talks between Mr Fitzgerald and Mr O'Callaghan in the months leading up to this council meeting.

Giving evidence from the witness box, Mr Fitzgerald admitted that he would have known Mr O'Callaghan and would have been on first-name terms with him.

However, he rejected Mr Gilmartin's allegations and said he had given no assurance to Mr O'Callaghan.

He said he was concerned and annoyed when this was put in the public domain.
