Independent Mayo TD Beverly Flynn has confirmed that she has not signed a deal with Bertie Ahern ahead of today's vote to select the next Taoiseach.

Independent Mayo TD Beverly Flynn has confirmed that she has not signed a deal with Bertie Ahern ahead of today's vote to select the next Taoiseach.

However, in a local radio interview this morning, Ms Flynn said she would be supporting Mr Ahern in the vote anyway.

The former Fianna Fáil TD was expelled from the party in 2004 after losing a libel action over claims that she helped National Irish Bank customers to evade tax.

She says she had good discussions with Mr Ahern in recent days and is confident that he will be generous to her Mayo constituency over the coming five years, but she has not signed a formal agreement with him.

Ms Flynn could be set to lose her Dáil seat shortly as RTÉ seeks to recover the costs of defending the libel action she instigated in 2001.

Bankruptcy proceedings being issued by RTÉ against the Mayo TD are scheduled to come before the High Court in Dublin next Monday.

If she is declared bankrupt, Ms Flynn will automatically lose here Dáil seat.
