The Road Safety Authority has described the last 48 hours as "One of the worst weekends on Irish roads this year".

Five people - four from the one extended family - have been killed in two separate collisions.

A ten-year old girl and three women died instantly when their car collided with a jeep in Co. Westmeath yesterday morning.

In Co Monaghan, a pensioner was killed at around midday yesterday following a crash there.
