It has emerged that the company which printed the information leaflet on the Household Charge has gone into receivership.

The Department of the Environment has also said it cannot guarantee that every home in the country will have received a leaflet before the deadline for setting up direct debits.

More than two million leaflets were ordered, with the majority expected to be delivered by a private company.

Householders have until midnight tomorrow to avail of the facility to stagger the €100 charge, otherwise they will have to pay the full amount by March 31.

A spokesperson for the Department has said nationwide delivery of the leaflets is still not complete, and will be concluded in the next day or so.
