Fianna Fáil is to finalise what is says will be the highest ethical standards in Irish politics as the party's ard fheis continues in Dublin today.
Last night party leader Micheál Martin promised swift and comprehensive action against anyone named in the Mahon Tribunal report as being found to have engaged in wrongdoing in the party, or while in elected office.
To applause from the 4,000 delegates at the RDS he promised no party supporter would be let down again by low standards, and took a veiled swipe at former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
"When the final report of the Mahon Tribunal is published we will act without fear or favour against anyone who is shown to have abused their position in Fianna Fáil or in elected office,” he said.
“Action will be swift and comprehensive.
"I am determined that the people who belong to Fianna Fáil and support Fianna Fáil will never again be let down by low standards.”
In his speech Mr Martin lavished praise on Brian Cowen and Brian Lenihan for what he called their service to the nation.
Among the reforms to be agreed at the ard fheis today will be what Fianna Fáil says will be the highest ethical standards in politics.
Members are also likely to get a greater say with a new one member, one vote system.
The economy, health, education and justice will all be discussed.
Much attention will also be on former deputy leader Éamon Ó Cuiv, who is attending the gathering despite his shock resignation from the position earlier this week.
