Fianna Fáil 'fighting for third seat' in European elections

Fianna Fáil's director of elections for Europe says the party is set to claim at least two seats.

Tallies show that Brian Crowley will top the poll in the South with 26% of the vote.

Fianna Fáil is also in contention for a seat in the Midlands Northwest - but its unclear if it will go to Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher or Thomas Byrne.

However Timmy Dooley admits Mary Fitzpatrick will be in a dogfight to claim a seat for the party in Dublin.

"It was always going to be a big ask to win a European seat in Dublin," he said.

"Recognising that we haven't had a TD since the last election, we haven't won a European seat in Dublin for 10 years, and that's when there were four seats, so it was always a big ask.

"But I think we'll be certainly fighting for a third seat today."
