Fianna Fáil is calling for the Minister of State for Small Business, John Perry, to clarify if he has broken the ministerial code in his dealings with banks.
Yesterday the Sligo Deputy and his wife consented to an almost €2.5m judgement against them over unpaid loans.
During the case it emerged he hoped to secure a loan from AIB and had also suggested he would speak about the matter to Bank of Ireland CEO Richie Boucher.
Michael McGrath, finance spokesperson for Fianna Fáil, said this raised some issues.
"What we want to know is whether or not there has been any breach of the ministerial code," Deputy McGrath said.
"[We'd like to know if] clarification was sought by Minister Perry of his boss [Richard Bruton] of whether or not he should have been dealing with banking issues, and dealing with the heads of AIB and Bank of Ireland at a time when he was also seeking to involve those banks in the resolution of his personal financial difficulties."
