Junior Minister Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher has said he is unconvinced about the benefits of weekend voting, despite the relatively high turnout in last Saturday's Nice Treaty referendum.
Most commentators are in favour of weekend voting because it allows students and those working away from home time to cast their votes.
However, Mr Gallagher said this does not seem to have happened in his home constituency.
He said people manning the polling booths in Donegal south-west felt that midweek voting was much more successful.
