FF: Labour's motion on Aer Lingus 'just political posturing'

Fianna Fáil has today played down Labour's emergency motion on the future of Aer Lingus - describing it as "political posturing".

The Labour Party yesterday adopted a policy where the airline will only be sold to IAG if there are no compulsory redundancies.

The motion is not binding on the Government, but could make it more difficult for the Cabinet to accept any potential offer.

However, Fianna Fáil's transport spokesman Timmy Dooley says the motion is meaningless, and the deal is virtually done already.

"They're just fighting over the scraps of what's left," he said.

"It seems to me that if the background briefings are to be believed, then this is effectively a done deal, that we're only just scrapping around the edges now about trying to get reassurance for various different political interests.

"I think it's really an appalling situation that the Government has actually fallen into this trap, or are actually driving it."
