FF: Health Minister 'interfered in commercial arrangement' on care centres

Taoiseach has accused the Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin of making a "mountain out of a molehill" over fresh claims about the Health Minister's involvement in the selection of primary care centres.

Deputy Martin told the Dáil today that Freedom of Information figures show Minister Reilly interfered in a commercial process in adding two locations in his own constituency.

The documents show the list signed off on by the Taoiseach and Tánaiste on Friday July 13, but the Swords and Balbriggan locations were only added the following Monday after a flurry of emails.

Mr Martin and Enda Kenny clashed on the issue in the Dáil on Leaders Questions.

"He did interfere," said Deputy Martin.

"Unfortunately the Minister, it's in black and white, interfered in a commercial arrangement."

The Taoiseach responded: "You're trying to make a mountain here out of a molehill.

"What I'm interested in, and what you should be interested in, is in seeing that these primary care centres, that the foundations are cut."

He added later: "Don't come in here and claim that I've told lies to this House about this matter."
