The Government has today been accused of deliberately skewing its own jobs figures.
Fianna Fáil says people on programmes like JobBridge are deliberately taken off the Live Register, but should not be.
The Government today announced plans to create full employment by 2018 - bringing its target forward by two years.
However, Fianna Fáil spokesman Dara Calleary says the numbers don't add up.
“We’re looking at the moment at the correlation between the job creation figures and wage figures – and it doesn’t add up” he said.
“And it does suggest that there’s a lot of underemployment, there’s a lot of people who are still getting two, three days’ work, and if you were getting two or three days’ work in December, you’re getting no work in January.”
Sinn Féin TD Peadar Tóibín described the Taoiseach and Tánaiste’s promise on jobs for 2015 as a hollow 2016 election.
The Sinn Féin Jobs Spokesperson said: “Back in 2011 Labour and Fine Gael promised to deliver 100,000 jobs but we know from the latest CSO figures they are 40,000 jobs behind in meeting their 2011 target.
“Whilst new employment has increased over the last four years the rate of growth in many parts of the state is glacial, and in others it has actually declined in the last year.
“Many of the so called new jobs created are on Job Activation Programmes and for every job created under this Government’s watch five people have emigrated.
“Unemployment would tip 20% if both were included.”
