FF call on Minister to intervene in City of Culture

Fianna Fáil is accusing the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht of taking a "hands-off" approach to the resignations at Limerick City of Culture.

The criticism of Jimmy Deenihan comes in the wake of a series of resignations from the project.

The Chief Executive Patricia Ryan stepped down yesterday, becoming the fourth person to leave.

Fianna Fáil's Sean O'Fearghail says Minister Deenihan must take a much more active role in the project:

"There is €6m of public money - taxpayer's money - being invested in this vital project for Limerick, and I think it's time the Minister moved from hands-off to definite hands-on," he said.

"[He needs] to ensure that there is proper accountability and proper transparency in terms of the appointments that are made and how this project is run over the next 12 months."

The board of the City of Culture is meeting today to begin the process of filling the vacant posts.
