FF accuses Government of hypocrisy on bankers' pay

Fianna Fáil has accused the Government of hypocrisy on the issue of pay and pensions for senior bankers.

The comments come after it emerged that a new executive is due to start work at the IBRC this Monday, on an annual pay deal of more than €500,000.

It has been reported that Kevin Blake will become the former Anglo Irish Bank's chief risk officer.

It is understood that the Department of Finance has confirmed his appointment and pay package meets their guidelines.

He is the seventh executive at the bank to be paid more than €500,000 per annum.

Fianna Fáil's Finance Spokesperson Michael McGrath said it was hypocritical of the Government to condemn the high pay of bankers in state run financial institutions and yet approve this pay package.
