A new proposal is being discussed that could see the end of anonymous sperm donations in Ireland.
The move is set to be recommended by the Oireachtas Justice Committee today to recommend children born in Ireland should have the right to know who their genetic parents are.
Experts have said it is important for a child's sense of identity - as well as their right to access medical information.
The proposal suggests a dual birth certificate which would contain details of both the 'social parents' and the genetic lineage of a child.
The cross party group previously held hearings on a proposed new Family Relationships Bill - which also deals with surrogacy and same-sex adoption and is due to become law later this year.
