Gardaí are investigating a so-called tiger kidnapping in which a bookmaker and his family were held hostage in Co Westmeath last night.

Gardaí are investigating a so-called tiger kidnapping in which a bookmaker and his family were held hostage in Co Westmeath last night.

A gang of men broke into the family home in Moate at around 5pm and tied up the man's wife and teenage son.

The bookmaker was taken to his shop and forced to hand over around €10,000 before he was freed.
