Families spending almost half their income on childcare

A recent OECD report shows that the average double-income families with two children here spend 45% of their net income on preschool care.

A recent OECD report shows that the average double-income families with two children here spend 45% of their net income on preschool care.

Comparisons also show that in some other European countries, such as Belgium, costs are nine times cheaper than in Ireland.

The Minister for Children Barry Andrews says the Government is slowly moving towards the direct provision of childcare.
