Latest: This year's Dublin City Marathon has been won by an athlete from Ethiopia. Dereje Tulu crossed the line in a time of 2 hours 12 minutes and 8 seconds.

He was followed by the women's winner from Namibia Helalia Johannes who was just 20 minutes slower.

19,500 athletes are taking part this year in the biggest ever race, which is being run for the first time ever on a Sunday.

More than 19,000 runners have been taking part in the Dublin City Marathon.

For the first time in the history of the race, it is being held on a Sunday instead of a Bank Holiday Monday.

The final finishers are due to cross the finish line at about 4.30pm.

There is a detailed traffic management plan surrounding the course but the best advice is to use public transport if heading into the city today.

Irish international ultra runner and coach John O'Regan said hydration was key before and during the race to minimise any discomfort afterwards.

"It's not the distance that catches people - it's the pace. The distance will be manageable if you follow the pace that you trained for," he said.

There are aid stations at every three-mile point.
