ESRI: More wheelchair-accessible taxis needed

The ESRI is criticising the lack of policy regarding wheelchair-accessible taxis.

A research paper has looked at the issue of taxi regulation and finds that the market appears to have been adjusting well with price discounting and a drop in the number of taxis.

It says if there is oversupply, excess capacity should be eliminated by 2017 at the latest.

However, an area of concern remains around wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

The report says the current regime is doing little if anything to improve the number of taxis available to wheelchair users.
