Emergency services recover body of second diver off Cork coast

Search teams have recovered the body of the second diver who failed to resurface to his dive vessel off the coast of Cork today.

His body was found at a depth of between 42m and 47m, just beyond the recreational dive limit of 40 metres.

His body is being brought to Baltimore.

The men were aged 61 and 66 and were from the UK.

The major search and rescue operation was sparked this morning after the alarm was raised when two divers failed to reappear from a recreational dive on a submarine wreck, four miles south of Castlehaven, near Glandore in Co Cork.

One man was taken unconscious from the water and airlifted to Cork University Hospital by the Shannon coastguard helicopter this morning, however efforts to resuscitate him failed.

The search was coordinated by the Valentia Coastguard with the Waterford-based Rescue 117 coastguard helicopter involved well as two boats from Baltimore RNLI, the all-weather lifeboat and a RIB.
