The knock-on effects from the closure of Dublin Airport yesterday are still being felt as efforts continue to clear the backlog of 40,000 passengers after the cancellation of more than 230 flights.
An additional 60,000 other passengers were due to fly today.
Operations resumed at 7.15am today, but intending passengers are still being advised to contact their carrier before going to the airport.
Ryanair and Aer Lingus are providing additional aircraft and extra capacity where possible to clear the backlog.
The Dublin Airport Authority hopes that normal service will be resumed within the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the first in a series of large salt shipments has arrived in Ireland to help the country's local authorities keep main roads open.
Met Éireann is warning that the expected thaw now will not arrive until St Stephen's Day, but that no further significant snow events are forecast.
