Educate Together welcomes Minister's comments on divestment of school patronage

Educate Together has today welcomed Minister Jan O’Sullivan’s pledge to “reinvigorate” the process of divesting school patronage.

Speaking at the ETBI annual conference today, Minister O’Sullivan said she was committed to meeting with Catholic bishops and other patrons in the coming weeks with a view to making progress.

"My aim will be to ensure that we can announce a speeding up of divestments before the end of this year, along with a roadmap for advancing this agenda over the next year or two," said Minister O'Sullivan.

Educate Together stated that surveys carried out by the Department of Education have shown that many parents around the country have chosen Educate Together as their preferred school model.

The group also pointed out that three years after the school patronage surveys were taken, families in 19 areas are still waiting for the Educate Together schools they opted for.
