The rapid deterioration of the public finances is expected to dominate debate at Fine Gael's annual conference in Dublin this weekend.
The gathering at CityWest is taking place just days before the Government reveals an emergency Budget aimed at imposing up to €6bn worth of tax increases and spending cuts.
Fine Gael is currently the most popular political party in the opinion polls and will be using this weekend's event as a launchpad for the forthcoming local and European elections.
With no contentious motions up for debate, the ard fheis is likely to be a positive affair, with party leader Enda Kenny expected to call for a major electoral effort between now and the June polls.
