Dundalk hospital facing loss of emergency surgery

The Royal College of Surgeons has reportedly recommended the ending of emergency surgery at the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk.

The Royal College of Surgeons has reportedly recommended the ending of emergency surgery at the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk.

Reports this morning said the body had recommended that all emergency surgery in the area be carried out instead at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

The proposal is likely to attract widespread local opposition given the controversy surrounding the downgrading of Monaghan Hospital and the affect this had had on services in the north-east.

If Dundalk is also downgraded, Drogheda and Cavan will be the only hospitals in the region carrying out emergency procedures.
