A Government TD has backed reports that a greenfield site in North Dublin is now one of the favoured locations for the new National Children's Hospital.
Belcamp, near Coolock, is located close to the M1, the M50, the airport, DART rail services and the adult hospital at Beaumont, with which it could co-locate.
Labour TD for Dublin North East Sean Kenny said that the area has one of the fastest-growing populations in the country's and also pointed out that the location of the hospital in his constituency would benefit overall development there.
Deputy Kenny admitted however that since the Government has not yet stated a preference for any of the nine newly proposed sites, he can only speak in a personal capacity.
"No decision has been made and all we're aware of is that a number of sites were being considered and at one stage the Mater site was being considered as the number one," he said.
"Now that would appear to have changed. So I think that having a greenfield site close to the city and with access from the M1 and the M50 would be better, in my view."
