A major protest is taking place in Dublin later today against the EU-IMF austerity programme.

Demonstrators will march from Parnell Square to the Merrion Hotel where delegates from the Troika are staying.

Organisers are challenging the Irish Government to halt its collaboration with the troika's austerity programme which they say is causing huge suffering for ordinary Irish citizens.

Today's demonstration is part of a global day of protests, with similar events taking place in the US, Greece, Italy, Spain and London.
