A Dublin priest has been made a Bishop in the Vatican.

The promotion makes him one of the most senior Irish people in Rome.

Paul Tighe was ordained in Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of Pope Francis.

Bishop Tighe has previously worked as the head of the Theology Department at the Mater Dei Institute of Education in Dublin.

Bishop Tighe has said he is both “surprised and delighted” about the new post.
