Dublin Lord Mayor still believes three Brooks gigs will go ahead

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Christy Burke, said he believes three Garth Brooks concerts will go ahead in Croke Park later this month.

Yesterday the Country singer rejected a proposal to hold two matinee gigs to facilitate Monday and Tuesday ticket holders.

The event has been thrown into disarray after Dublin City Council refused a licence for two of the five gigs - leading to a standoff between the Promoters, Garth Brooks and the City Council.

Councillor Christy Burke has revealed that Martin Frazer - the country's most senior civil servant was ordered by the Taoiseach to intervene in the row yesterday.

He said he is confident that three of the gigs will go ahead as planned - as the stage for Croke Park was already on the way with personnel.
