Dissident republican allegedly identified as Regency Hotel attack gunman

A dissident republican from Tyrone has been identified by gardaí as one of the gunmen who carried out a shooting at a boxing match weigh-in at a Dublin hotel earlier this month.

According to the Irish edition of The Sunday Times, police have identified two of the six gunmen who shot David Byrne dead and wounded two other men, after they were photographed by journalists while leaving the hotel.

From Highland radio Donal Kavanagh reports: "The Sunday Times reports today that one of the men identified by gardaí is a continuity IRA member from Co Tyrone.

"Last week a statement to the BBC reporting to be from the continuity IRA in Armagh, claimed responsibility for the attack, but a later statement to the press also claiming to be from the continuity IRA contradicted that claim.

"The second person photographed is thought to be a Dublin criminal, he was dressed as a woman.

"David Byrne was shot dead and two others were wounded in the Regency Hotel in Dublin on Friday February 5."
