A conference in Dublin has heard that disabled people make up just 2.8% of workers employed in central and local government jobs in Ireland.

The conference heard that this was just marginally higher than the 2.7% overall rate of disabled people in the workforce.

The conference was organised by a European group, Access Ability, whose manager, Paula King, said 80% of disabled people in Ireland are out of work.

Ms King called on the Government to set a better example for private employers by hiring more people with disabilities.
