A driver had his car hijacked after stopping to help a man who appeared to be ill at the side of the road.

A driver had his car hijacked after stopping to help a man who appeared to be ill at the side of the road.

The victim was driving along Racecourse Road near the border in Derry at 10.30pm last night when he saw two men on the roadside.

Noticing that one appeared to be ill, the driver got out to offer assistance but was pushed to the ground before the hijackers made off with his vehicle.

The Mitsubishi pick-up was later found abandoned in the Bloomfield Park area of the city.

One of the hijackers is described as being in his late 20s, approximately 5ft 10ins, of medium build, with short black hair.

He was wearing a dark hooded sweat-top, dark jacket with a high collar and jeans.

The second male is described as being aged in his early 20s, approximately 5ft 8ins, thin and with short brown hair.

He was wearing jeans and a dark sweat-top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact CID in Strand Road police station.
