Deputy State Pathologist resigns with immediate effect
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar has resigned from his post, it has emerged.
The Department of Justice said he handed in his notice yesterday and quit with immediate effect.
A spokeswoman for Justice Minister Alan Shatter said: “Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar has tendered his resignation to the Minister for Justice and Equality.
“Dr Jabbar’s resignation has been accepted with immediate effect and he has been notified accordingly.”
The shock resignation comes amid reports of a dispute with Dr Cassidy.
It is understood the doctor has written a series of letters criticising Prof Cassidy’s qualifications for her job, claiming that she does not have “credible certification” in forensic pathology.

The Saudi-born pathologist was appointed in 2010 to the Office of the State Pathologist, which has been headed by Professor Cassidy, 54, from Glasgow, since 2004.
She is assisted by two deputies, Dr Jabbar and Dr Michael Curtis, while Dr Margot Bolster helps on a part-time and regional basis.
