Dept of Foreign Affairs contacts four Irish trapped inside Cairo Mosque
The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it has made contact with a group of Irish people trapped inside a Mosque in Cairo.
It is believed four Irish siblings are among hundreds of people who barricaded themselves inside the Al-Fateh Mosque in Cairo early this morning.
It is reported the stand-off between the protesters and the Egyptian military has ended peacefully but it is unclear if the people have been able to leave the mosque.
The Irish Anti-War Movement is calling on the Irish Government to impose sanctions on Egypt over the violence.
Sixty people were killed during clashes yesterday as supporters of the ousted president Mohamed Morsi took to the streets to demonstrate over the killing of more than 600 people earlier this week.
A protest is being held outside the Egyptian Embassy in Ballsbridge in Dublin at 2pm this afternoon to condemn the massacre.
