Denis Naughten says his mother 'is always at him' over state of rural Ireland broadband

The Communications Minister says his mother 'is always at him' over the state of broadband in rural Ireland.

Denis Naughten has been defending the National Broadband Plan in the Dáil amid mounting criticism since Eir pulled out of the bidding process.

The Minister said he is well aware of the concerns of rural Ireland.

He said: "I know the issues because I'm dealing with them on the ground, one of Deputy Murphy's constituents, my own mother is continually and persistently at me in relation to this.

"She is less than a mile from the existing fibre network, she is within a few yards of the local primary school, my own nieces are missing out on it.

"I am very conscious on a personal as well as political level of the impact of this."
