Denis Naughten: Irresponsible to decide how to vote in abortion referendum before seeing legislation

Denis Naughten says it would be irresponsible for him to decide how vote in an abortion referendum before seeing the legislation.

It comes as a new Irish Times/MRBI shows that 56% of voters favour terminations without restriction up to 12 weeks.

Support for repealing the Eighth is strongest in Dublin, among women and younger voters.

Minister Naughten says he needs to see more evidence and information before making up his mind.

He said: "I’ve consistently said that when I have all the evidence in front of me, all of the information and all of the legislative proposals, I will make a decision.

"I will not be pushed into any decision until I have that in front of me and I think everyone in society should wait and see the detail of what is being proposed and then make a decision in relation to it."
