Definite line of inquiry in six-year-old shooting, gardaí report

The Minister for Justice said she has spoken to the acting Garda Commissioner about the shooting of a six-year-old in Dublin at the weekend.

Sean Scully remains in a serious condition in hospital after being shot in the neck in the Croftwood Gardens estate in Ballyfermot on Friday night.

Frances Fitzgerald told the Dáil she spoke with Garda chief Noirin O'Sullivan about the incident last night.

"The interim garda commissioner assured me that progress is being made, with all the necessary resources being deployed," she said.

"An Garda Síochána is determined to bring to justice those involved, and I am sure - indeed I know - they have the full support of the local community in identifying the perpetrators."

Gardaí do not believe the child was the intended target, and said they are following a "definite line of inquiry".
