The Defence Forces have lost almost a third of its rank-and-file in the past five years.

The Sunday Times reports that three-quarters of those leaving the force are taking early retirement.

Leadership at the force have warned the Army, Navy and Air Corps will not be back to full strength until 2031 if the current trend continues.
