Figures to be released today are expected to show some improvement in finances at the health service.
The HSE is to publish its performance report for September online.
Although it will show the executive is still running a deficit of nearly €400m, it is expected to be down slightly on the figure from August.
Industry Correspondent with the Irish Times Martin Wall has said €130m of savings that were implemented in recent months are paying off.
Mr Wall said: "Those cuts are beginning to take effect, but the deficit is still quite daunting.
"The question remains as to whether the measures that have been taken already will be sufficient to eliminate the deficit by the year-end or will there be further cuts or will, as happened in many other previous years, the Government be effectively required to bailout the health service with a further supplementary estimate."
